Bring your client list across without retyping it

Updated 22 September 2026

Save your client list as a CSV file and upload it. FurSlot matches the columns by name and shows you each row, with a list of the problems it found. Nothing goes into your records until you press Import.

What FurSlot reads from a spreadsheet

The file needs a header row, then one row per dog. A client with three dogs takes three rows with the same name and phone. FurSlot knows the common names for each column, so most files work as they are:

  • Client: Client, Owner, Customer or Name.
  • Phone: Phone, Mobile or Cell.
  • Pet: Pet, Dog or Dog name.
  • Breed: matched against the 243 breeds already in FurSlot.
  • Email: Email or Email address.
  • Notes: Notes, Comments or Grooming notes. FurSlot saves them on the dog as its special requests.
  • Date and time: optional. If you include them, the appointment comes across too.

The only column you must have is a client name or a pet name. If FurSlot cannot find either, it lists the headers it did see, so you know which to rename.

The preview step, which writes nothing

Drop the file on the import page and FurSlot reads it before saving anything. You see how many rows it found and which columns it matched, then each client, phone, email, dog and breed the way FurSlot will save it. Above that sits a list of anything it is unsure about:

  • If a breed could mean more than one, such as "Lab", FurSlot leaves it blank instead of guessing and names the breeds it might be.
  • A breed it does not recognize comes in blank, for you to set later.
  • A dog with no client name goes in under "[dog's name]'s owner" until you fix it.

If you press Cancel, nothing changes. FurSlot writes to your records only when you press Import, and it brings no card details across: each client adds their own card through Stripe when they book.

Appointments come across too

If a row has a date and a time, FurSlot books it onto your calendar too. It reads dates written as 2026-09-01, 9/1/2026, Sep 1, 2026 or 1 Sep 2026 and refuses to guess at any other format, since a wrong guess would put a real dog in the wrong slot. From a row with a date it cannot read, FurSlot still brings the client and dog across, and it counts those dates in the summary. It reads times in your shop's time zone and treats a bare 1 to 7, with no AM or PM, as afternoon.

The import does not bring across what the dog had done or what you charged, because a spreadsheet only records the slot. Each imported booking goes in as a full groom, timed and priced from the dog's breed in your price table, or from your typical full groom when the breed is blank. You can change the service on any booking afterwards. If a row clashes with an appointment already on your calendar, FurSlot skips that row and counts it.

Running it twice does not duplicate anyone

You can fix a few rows and upload the file again. On the second run, FurSlot checks what it already has:

  • It matches clients on phone number first, then on name, so a client does not end up on the list twice.
  • A dog already on file under that client does not get a second record, because FurSlot recognizes it by name.
  • Blank breeds and blank emails fill in from the new sheet, and any you already set stay as they are.
  • If the same dog already has an appointment at that start time, FurSlot skips the new one.

At the end you get a count of what FurSlot added, matched, filled in and booked, plus anything it could not book.

Exporting your old software's data first

FurSlot has no special connection to any other booking system. Its column matching works on any spreadsheet, including the CSV files other booking tools let you download, so your job is to get a spreadsheet out of your old system. Look in its settings or reports for an export option and pick the client list as CSV. In Excel or Numbers, use Save As and choose CSV, and in Google Sheets use File, then Download, then Comma-separated values.

We have not tested every system's export, so we cannot promise yours will map column for column. Check the matches in the preview before you press Import.

If the file is a mess, send it in

If your list is photos of a paper book, a spreadsheet with all of it in one column, or two files that do not line up, send it through the contact page and we will type it in for you. The form takes up to three files and 2 MB in total. A person reads every message and answers within 24 hours.

What the import leaves behind

  • No direct connection to any other booking system. It only reads the CSV file you upload.
  • No undo button for an import, so the preview is your check. After an import you can delete clients one at a time from the client list, and deleting a client removes their dogs and bookings too.
  • No prices, services or past payments from your old system.
  • No cards. Clients add their own card through Stripe the next time they book online.
  • No texts to imported clients until they agree to them. Anyone with an email in the sheet gets email reminders meanwhile.
  • No Excel files, so save the sheet as CSV before you upload it.

Worries before the first import

What if my old software will not give me my client list?

Start from whatever you can get, even a printout or the contacts on your phone. Type it into the blank template on the import page, one row per dog, or send photos of it through the contact page and we will type it in for you.

Does it bring my appointment history or just names?

It brings any row with a readable date and time, as a booking on your calendar and in the dog's groom history. It does not bring what the dog had done or what you charged, so each imported booking goes in as a full groom, timed and priced from the breed, or from your typical full groom when the breed is blank.

What happens if a breed name in my sheet does not match?

The dog imports with the breed left blank, and the preview tells you which row it was. If the name could fit more than one breed, such as Lab, the preview lists the breeds it might be instead of picking one. Set the breed on the dog's profile, or fix the sheet and upload it again, and the blank fills in.

Can I try it and undo it?

You can try it without saving anything, because FurSlot writes nothing until you press Import. After an import there is no single undo, but you can delete any client from the client list, and uploading the same file again will not create duplicates.
