Square Appointments for dog grooming, and where it stops

First, the compatibility question

No, FurSlot does not integrate with Square, and no setting will change that, because we built FurSlot on Stripe Connect. You connect your own Stripe account, and each deposit and no-show fee goes through that account, with your business as the merchant and your name on the client's statement. Stripe saves the card a client uses at booking on your account, so you can charge a no-show fee later without asking for the card again; FurSlot keeps only the last four digits.

FurSlot has no way to reach a card you saved in Square. It also has no public API, no webhooks, no Zapier and no Make, so you cannot connect the two by another route, and Stripe is the only payment processor in it. FurSlot sends texts through Twilio and no other provider.

If you want Square to be your only card processor, deposits included, FurSlot is not for you and you can stop reading here. If you are happy to take deposits through Stripe and keep Square for the counter, read the last section, on running both.

What Square Appointments does well for a groomer

We checked Square's own pricing page on 22 September 2026, and most of what it lists suits a groomer:

• A free plan. Square Free costs $0 a month per location, and you pay only processing fees when you take a payment. FurSlot has no free plan.
• Card readers you can hold. Square sells hardware with options starting at $59, and an in-person tap, dip or swipe is 2.6% + 15¢ on the free plan. There's no in-person payment in FurSlot at all.
• Booking basics for nothing. The free plan includes an online booking site, appointment reminders, appointment deposits, and service messages your clients can reply to by text or email.
• No-show fees on Plus. Square's cancellation policy and no-show fees come with Plus, at $49 a month per location, which also adds loyalty rewards, staff shift scheduling, and tip pooling and commission tracking.
• Gift cards. Square offers physical and eGift cards on every plan, with a 2.5% load fee on Free and Plus.

If you set Square up in an afternoon and bookings are coming in, you may not need to switch.

Where it stops being a grooming tool

Square built Appointments for all kinds of appointment businesses, and its pricing page lists no breed or coat pricing. On Square, a Poodle and a Pug book the same service at the same price and slot length unless you split them by hand, either with a separate service for each breed or with a price you work out and text over before the client books.

You spend evenings on that, and a client can still book the medium dog slot for what turns out to be an overdue doodle, leaving the hour you blocked nowhere near enough.

FurSlot works the other way round: your account arrives with 243 breeds already priced, each with a groom time for each service. The client picks the breed, the service and the coat condition, and sees the price before they book. For a mix, FurSlot blends the two parent breeds, and for a matted coat it books a longer slot. You can change any number whenever you like, starting from a full list instead of a blank one. The How the breed matrix works page shows it in full.

What FurSlot does not have that Square does

If you are deciding between the two, these are the gaps on FurSlot's side:

• No card reader and no in-person payments. FurSlot takes deposits and no-show fees online, and you collect the balance at pickup however you like.
• No free plan. FurSlot plans cost $19 to $49 a month, with no free tier.
• No retail, no stock and no till. FurSlot is for booking and sells nothing over a counter.
• No gift cards, loyalty points or tipping.
• No staff scheduling. Team gives up to 5 groomer profiles under one login, with no staff logins, permissions, shifts or timecards.
• No replies from clients. FurSlot sends reminder texts, reads STOP and START, and ignores any other reply, because it has no message inbox.
• No phone app. FurSlot runs in the browser on your phone, and there is nothing to download for you or your clients.

FurSlot also lacks repeating bookings, several dogs in one checkout, add-ons picked at booking, intake forms and waivers, packages, time off blocked on the calendar, your own logo or domain on the booking page, and any currency but US dollars.

Square's per-location plans against FurSlot's flat price

We took the Square figures below from Square's appointments pricing page on 22 September 2026. If you groom alone, you would pick FurSlot's Solo plan at $19 or Pro at $24.

The cheaper option depends on what you need. For booking and deposits alone, Square Free costs nothing a month and FurSlot costs at least $19. For no-show fees, Square's Plus plan is $49 a month per location, and all three FurSlot plans include them. FurSlot plans include 200, 500 or 1,500 reminder text segments a month, then 2¢ a segment. Card fees come on top of either one: Square's, or Stripe's on your own account.

Running both

You can run the two side by side. You book through FurSlot, so the client picks the breed and sees the price, the deposit goes through your Stripe account, and the reminder goes out. At pickup you take the balance however you already do, including a tap on your Square reader. FurSlot takes no in-person payments, so your counter setup stays as it is.

Running both means two payment accounts, each with its own payouts and dashboard, to reconcile at tax time. If that bothers you more than quoting doodles by hand, stay on Square alone. Using Square and FurSlot together

Does FurSlot work with Square?

No, the two cannot connect, because FurSlot runs on Stripe Connect and Stripe is the only payment processor it supports. You charge deposits and no-show fees on your own Stripe account, and FurSlot has no public API, webhooks or Zapier to link it to Square. You can still use both side by side, as long as your deposits go through Stripe.

Can I use Square for in-person payments and FurSlot for booking?

Yes. FurSlot handles the booking, the price by breed and the deposit through your Stripe account. It takes no in-person payments, so you can collect the balance at pickup on your Square reader, in cash, or any other way you already do. You do have to keep two payment accounts and two sets of payouts straight.

Does Square do breed-based pricing?

Square's pricing page does not advertise breed-based pricing. Appointments serves all kinds of appointment businesses, so on Square you build breed differences by hand, as separate services or as prices worked out before the client books. FurSlot arrives with each breed already priced, with a groom time per service, and blends the time and price for a mixed breed.

Which is cheaper, Square or FurSlot?

Square, if you only need booking and deposits: Square Free is $0 a month plus processing fees, and FurSlot starts at $19.
